Chepstow Hospital
The principal general hospital for accident and emergencies for the Chepstow area is the Royal Gwent Hospital, Cardiff Road Newport, telephone 01633 234234.
Chepstow Community Hospital opened its doors to patients on 26th February 2000. Patients, visitors and staff all now enjoy for better facilities than before and in an attractive modern environment. The hospital is also the home of two of the town's three GP practices - Towngate and Mount Pleasant.
Services provided include:-
- inpatient services, comprising rehabilitation care; GP managed care and elderly persons care:
- outpatient clinics and community services including audiology therapy and diagnostic services in for example: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietics and X-ray and,
- a 24hour nurse led minor injury unit
The modern hospital building incorporates many mementoes from the past including: the old portico moulding that once graced the front facade of the former Mount Pleasant Hospital, which once stood on the same site; the stained glass windows from the former St. Lawrence Hospital Chapel; and, high quality photographic replicas of wall paintings created by prisoners of war in the 1940's.
